Dr. Ravindra Chingale is an Advocate on Record of Supreme Court of India and Registered Patent Agent. Dr. Chingale is an Engineer turned lawyer and received his doctorate in law and technology from National Law University, Delhi. He has 15 years experience in civil and criminal litigation as well as Intellectual Property Rights and Corporate matters. He is invited Researcher from Institute of Intellectual Property, Tokyo, Japan. He is also recipient of a fellowship from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He has worked as consultant in the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. Dr. Chingale is an IPR consultant and his articles on software patents have been published in various international & national journals.

Shilpi Awasthi: With background in Biotechnology / Life sciences. She is experienced in Patent drafting, filing & prosecution in multiple domains including Biotechnology/ Life sciences, Pharmaceuticals, etc. Shilpi is the team leader of Patent Division and handles drafting and prosecution of patent applications, litigation matters pertaining to Biotechnology, Life Sciences and Pharma sector.

Adv. Nidhi Sharma has been enrolled as an advocate with Bar Council of Delhi to practice Law in India. She has done M.Sc. (Biotech), MBA and LLB. Intellectual Property Laws

A trademark (popularly known as brand name) in layman’s language is a visual symbol which may be a word signature, name, device, label, numerals or combination of colours used by one undertaking on goods or services or other articles of commerce to distinguish it from other similar goods or services originating from a different undertaking.

A Patent is a statutory right for an invention granted for a limited period of time to the patentee by the Government, in exchange of full disclosure of his invention for excluding others, from making, using, selling, importing the patented product or process for producing that product for those purposes without his consent.

Copyright is a form of protection grounded in the U.S. Constitution and granted by law for original works of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of expression. Copyright covers both published and unpublished works. The protection provided by copyright to the efforts of writers, artists, designers, dramatists, musicians, architects and producers of sound recordings, cinematographic films and computer software, creates an atmosphere conducive to creativity, which induces them to create more and motivates others to create.

DESIGN means only the features of shape, configuration, pattern or ornament or composition of lines or colour or combination thereof applied to any article whether two dimensional or three dimensional or in both forms, by any industrial process or means, whether manual, mechanical or chemical, separate or combined, which in the finished article appeal to and are judged solely by the eye, but does not include any mode or principle or construction or anything which is in substance a mere mechanical device, and does not include any trade mark, as define in clause (v) of sub-section of Section 2 of the Trade and Merchandise Marks Act, 1958, property mark or artistic works as defined under Section 2(c) of the Copyright Act, 1957.

It is an indication, originates from a definite geographical territory, used to identify agricultural, natural or manufactured goods. The manufactured goods should be produced or processed or prepared in that territory that it should have a special quality or reputation or other characteristics. E.g. Kanchipuram Silk Saree, Nagpur Orange, Kolhapuri Chappal, Bikaneri Bhujia, Agra Petha.
